Today! Artists unite to benefit Haitian relief in Roxbury

The Massachusetts Haitian American Earthquake Task Force is teaming up with local artists, gospel choirs, and special guests from across the nation to launch a major fundraising effort this Sunday, Jan. 24 to benefit organizations working to support victims of the January earthquake in Haiti. The program will be staged from 3-9 p.m. at Madison Park High School , 75 Malcom X Boulevard , Roxbury.

Participating artists will include well known Haitian celebrities, gospel artists, and children performers. Confirmed guest performers include: Carole Demesmin from Florida, Toto Laraque from Montreal, Nicky Christ from Haiti and Manno Chalmay (invited). Local performers include Pierre Gardy Fontaine, Mirlande Rouzard, Michael Besson, Rebecca Zama, Sebastien Lucien and Malaika Lucien, Jean Dauphin and Didi Jeremie.
Three musical bands are on the program at this time: Gifrants’ sextet, Group Zile Mizik and Group Melange

In addition local writers, poets and visual art artists from the Haitian Artists Assembly of Massachusetts (HAAM) will have artworks, books and CDs on display to help raise funds for the event.
