Shaky future for Haiti (Hispaniola)

Jan. 27, 2012 - 10:41 am

This a blog post in response to a nature article (http://www.nature.com/news/a-shaky-future-for-hispaniola-1.9905)

-What a week. More earthquakes are coming, so says the experts. I say more rains are coming too.

-Duvalier might get a pardon, if ever he were to be tried and found guilty. Logic would say, don't waste any money on a trial, since it is almost certain that he (baby Doctor) won't…

Haiti: The Republic of NGOs?

Jan. 13, 2012 - 3:55 pm

There is a fascinating discussion hosted on Al Jazeera English today where Inside Story Americas host Anand Naidoo asks: As rebuilding work continues two years after the quake, where did billions of dollars in international aid end up?

Panelists include Kim Ives, from the Haïti Liberte newsweekly; Mark Weisbrot from the Center for Economic and Policy Research; and Ray Laforest, a Haitian activist and community organiser.

Of all the "2 years later" broadcast media coverage I've…

Their clean uniforms and the fresh paint on the wall signal a potential change for Haiti's future. They have great opportunity waiting for them within these block walls.

In 2-years the…

Good news from Haiti: first success story for the mobile wallet in Latin America and the Caribbean

Jan. 10, 2012 - 6:00 pm
