Hi Everyone,

We've been working in Haiti for many years (15 this month!) helping to educate, train, and support street children including teaching Photography Workshops.

Last year we started a new project called Jouk Li Jou Kan Foto, an annual photo camp for street children where we partner with programs and organizations bringing our young photo students from Cité Soleil to work with kids in Jacmel for a 2 week large scale teaching and community event…

Nursing school needs help

COPSA-Haiti, the Organization for the Coordination of Medical Professionals, is registered as an NGO with the Haitian government.  It is comprised of a group of Haitian medical professionals who are working to improve healthcare delivery in Haiti.  In October 2011 the group launched a nursing school in Saint-Marc.  The school presently has nearly 300 students studying to become nurses, nursing assistants, laboratory technicians and pharmacy technicians.  The 4-year nursing program uses the…

Ubuntu Haiti

Hello,

 

Last April I was in Haïti for a week to install and configure a small (~30) lab of PCs dual booting Gnu/Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows at the St-François d'Assise School in Grand Goâve. I also showed the local teachers and one technician how to manage the lab, make new installations and we held the first workshop while I was there.

 

I wish to invite anyone in Haiti (or planning to go to Haiti) with similar projects to take a look at the following…

Warden Reports, Protests

Following the latest Warden Notices... I fundementally don't understand how randomnly hurting innocent motorists passing through a "protest zone" does anything to further the causes of those protesting. Having been in country to help, and having been a target of random violence during a protest, it gets hard to want to come back. Can anyone explain what the thought process is behind these frequent campaingns to hurt anyone within-rock throwing distance as a protest against the government or…

What should it cost? How secure should it be ? For Hurricanes,Earthquakes? Home invasion? Should it be self contained? Should it last more than 3 years? Can it be converted as the country is rebuilt? How simple and reliable should the systems be?( water,lighting,sanitation,cooking,beds,) Can it be shipped in mass quantities? Can it be built in Haiti by Hatians? These are the questions…
